Miis have had different designs in several games. In some games they can range from tiny to giant, others they have a standardized height and I think it would be fair from a gameplay standpoint if they kept all Miis to one height. I think it would be fun if your Mii's weight changed depending on how you set it, so long as it is only aesthetic. As a niggly little note, Mii's also have arms in some games and Rayman-like bobbles in others. I think visible arms would be a safer bet to show a more clear hitbox and for making the character look a little more human.
In terms of playstyle, their long list of varied appearances in games make Miis excellent candidates for Smash Bros. as they have lots of source material to comprise a move list out of. The most obvious example would perhaps be using various pieces of sports equipment to attack foes; we could see Peach-style attacks with golf clubs and tennis rackets; we could see boxing gloves equipped for devastating smash attacks; we could see a screen littered with projectiles from bowling balls that trip foes to baseballs that would incur small damage but come at breakneck speeds. Mii's recovery move might even be a hang-glider from "Wii sports Resort". Final Smashes could be anything from a "Mii Parade" army, a "Wii Music" orchestra attack like Donkey Kong's, a controllable "Wii Play" tank (complete with sound effects from the game) or my personal favourite which would be riding the bull from "Charge!" around the screen, smashing players everywhere.
Miis are fairly familiar with some actual weapons, too! |
Ultimately, I think Miis would be a very fun addition to the game - customisable characters seem all the rage in fighters at the moment and the idea of having a little cartoon version of oneself fight Luigi and Kirby is extremely exciting. Nintendo loves Miis because they see them as allowing a player to connect to a game and I'd have to agree with that. But Miis don't end at caricatures of oneself - we all want to see Michael Jackson duke it out with Ali G and Mr. T, too! So bring on the Miis I say as I believe they'll be unique, full of personality and very popular with players everywhere.
What do you think of Miis? Do they have a place in Smash Bros.? Or should the roster be reserved for already crafted identities? Let me know in the comments below or post over on the facebook page.
